Snapped rods and good times
So Mike and I went to Steelhead falls and kitted up,trooped out to rip some lips,as you can well imagine the boys, keen as mustard to slay it but did that happen, hell no,I scored the first hook up on a small 10" redband trout but to no avail the lil bugger got off,So we decided to move lower on the deschutes as the water was not producing many fish.Well we moved on and started off on our way, then ting ting ting ting Mikes rod flew out the window, lol it gets better,so we reverse and i hear a sound like a rod snapping so we stopped and checked it out and sure enough he had ran over his rod and snapped it in 3 places, but lucky for him i carry a spare rod and reel,Yes he was gutted but it didnt let him get phased and we moved on and he ended up landing an awesome 12" rainbow on my 4wt on the lower deschutes, which made his day and the bright side of the story is he gets to buy a new rod,Yay,we love new toys in this game so always carry a spare kit for those just in case scenario's,you just never know, have fun and as always tight lines.

5wts and small fish
So i have recently broken in my new 5wt with very good fly presentation control and am loving it i slayed about 18 fish on the first day of use with fish ranging from 2" to 16".So what does this mean, well as long as you have the right kit you will have a great time no matter what size fish you catch. As the summer keeps creeping closer the fishing will continue to get better and the fish larger but its still great fun to get out there with smaller weight line and rods to test your skill and more to the point to have fun with it and learn everyday your out there,so the fish are waiting and don't worry about the weather because most of the fish don't despite what you might have heard.

Right time wrong gear,Salmon Flies and no trout
So in the last blog we talked about new fishing spots so i put my money where my mouth is and went down to the the Middle deschutes, yes this place goes off in the salmon fly hatch, but did woodsy and i catch the big ones, hell no we got everything else,so we didn't get skunked we scored slowly but surely with woodsy on the board first with a 10" rainbow, followed up by a 14" brown trout so was i fuming, yes but finally on the board with a 6" brown and then missing 3 great strike opportunities and then another 3 strikes, anyone would think i was playing baseball.
Thinking this would be a full on day trip i ended up bringing a miss match of gear(just too excited and not thinking)so fishing with a 6wt rod and 8wt line well as you can imagine it was hard,it was like casting a spay rod after using a 4 wt all winter, meanwhile woodsy and i we're having a break and discussing the importance of bringing the right gear for the conditions,so lesson learnt this time.

New Fishing spots
We all like to fish in the comfort of what we all know, but what about the rest of the fish, there are so many other places to go source for our pleasured pass-time hobby or sport and who cares if you get skunked the first time,go back and try again,i mean come on how many times have you been skunked at your own stream or lake, give your favorite area time to recover and bounce back from getting disturbed everyday.
New fishing lakes or streams are always exciting and should always feel like christmas,a new place to hone and test your skills as a fisher dude or dudette, come on get out there and give it a go,you never know you might end up liking your new spot even better and less crowded.

Cheap Gear
Hey,so about getting into flyfishing,as i mentioned in another blog,it can be cheap to get started in this sport so the ads that surround this blog have some really great deals on all you need for flyfishing,I have been through most of the ads to ensure they are on the same level as me(lol),Orvis are running a special on the top 20 flies used in the U.S and very cheap i may add,Also Redtruck are running some awesome deals on Sage rods going from 30-50% off but if your just getting started there are set-ups out there for around $30 U.S,Granted the may not be the best quality or the best casting flex but hey your only getting started and if you want to spend more money go for it my friend get in and support your local and dont be afraid to ask your local fly shop dealer any questions, everyone in the industry is more than willing to help out but if your a lil shy ask me.So get out there and enjoy.

Green trout,Red trout,Gold trout,Brown trout
So i'm making it my personal mission this summer to see how many trout species i can target, the great thing about Oregon is that we have a very diverse catergory of these fish we so covert,cut-throat,bull trout, brook trout of course i could babble on,with friends like Taylor Garrets(Taylormade Outfitters.com) & Josh Wood this should be a task that can be accomplished but even the big boys get skunked now and again,of course photo's will have to be taken, beer to be drunk and jerky to be our staple diet. With tasks that require skill like fly fishing not all our target fish will be big ones but we will try to bring you something worth seeing.

Anytime
Well anytimes a good time to go fishing ,I was out on the Deschutes the other day and landed a 14" and 16" rainbow in full spawn colours,It was nice to get out and fish in the wind, rain and while it was snowing,it generally puts people off,but just goes to show you if there is water there is fish,by the way when conditions are crappy it turns out the river is not loaded up with every tom dick and harry slinging all sorts of contraptions into the water,so next time you have a doubt about the weather ....dont,throw a streamer on and give it a go.
